Taking The Full Potential From Wind

WindBenders leverages hyperbolic biomimicry to redefine wind power, delivering up to 6 times higher energy efficiency with safer, compact turbines helping build a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Windbenders

The idea behind WindBenders began with observing how Dönek pigeons rotate their wings to remain stable in changing winds. Inspired by this motion, WindBenders is a biomimetic micro wind turbine that adapts its blade geometry to variable urban winds, reducing energy loss and enabling efficient power generation where conventional turbines fail. With its low swept area, the system is designed to minimize environmental impact while operating in compact urban spaces.

Technology

The diving motion of the Dönek Pigeon is mathematically represented as a hyperbolic-3 manifold curve. Therefore, hyperbolic geometry is directly applied to the rotor hub, and the wings are then mounted to this hub at a curved angle. For this design, Onshape, a CAD software that allows us to design and adjust 3D shapes on a computer, was used.
